Guide to Blue Poly Tarp Applications

A lot of people use blue poly tarps because they’re cheap, yet multi-purpose. These tarps are economy grade, so they’re only recommended for light-duty applications. They cannot withstand constant exposure to the elements. If you need a cover to be used for more than three months, we suggest getting the heavy-duty ones. But you can certainly use a blue poly tarp for short-term applications. Simply store the tarp after use so it’ll be ready for another time.

Whether used in disaster relief operations or camping, blue poly tarps make great makeshift tents. They are very lightweight so they're easy to set up.

Blue poly tarps can be used for covering various materials, supplies and equipment, but we do not recommend these for use on items with sharp edges. Do not use these for covering materials like glass, wires, rocks, or branches. When used inappropriately, the blue tarp might get punctured. We suggest getting thicker covers for such materials.

Here are some of the items and properties that can be covered by blue poly tarps:

  • Boats
  • Swimming pools
  • Barbeque grills
  • Buildings (ongoing construction)
  • Motorcycles

Poly tarps will eventually get worn out. When this happens, do not just throw them away. Remember that poly tarps are made of polyethylene—the most common plastic. Go green and ask about tarp recycling programs in your area.

Qualities of Blue Poly Tarps

Blue poly tarps are an economy grade tarp. The typical weave count of a blue poly tarp is 8 x 8, but here at Tarps Plus, we offer ones with an 8 x 10 weave. A higher mesh count means a denser material. This means you get better quality from our blue poly tarps. They have a thickness of 5-6 mils with a thread thickness of 900 denier, so they can only be used for light-duty applications.

This tarp is waterproof. Whether it’s exposed to the rain or sun, the items covered by this blue poly tarp are protected from damaging agents brought by different weather conditions. Blue poly tarps can be used during winter with their ability to remain flexible even under extremely cold weather conditions. Mildew and mold will not form on our blue poly tarps. They can also resist the destructive abilities of acids. With all these amazing qualities combined, you get a tarp that can be used any time of year.
